Shades - by Kaz Getts

Where does friendship end and love begin? What draws people to one another? How “fixed” is a person’s sexuality? Is all fair in love (and war)? These are the questions explored in this new play about relationships in our contemporary society where moral and ethical boundaries are blurring more and more. The play features a large cast (up to 18 characters) and is a drama with some very funny moments.

The play follows 2 central characters, Alex, a seventeen-year old boy and Carmen, a woman in her late 30’s. Each is facing a crisis in his/her personal life that they play out using sex.

During the workshop sessions on this play, the author is hoping to finalise the dialogue and gain valuable insights from potential cast members. To participate please email us

* Shades won the RAPA Playwright’s award for 2003, which was a competition held to find a new work. The winning play is workshopped by RAPA and will be performed by the RAPA cast.
